Very sad day. :( A beautiful 100-year-old oak tree reduced to this. I'll be glad when the stump guy comes tomorrow to grind it down and I won't see the sad reminder anymore.
I asked the tree guy to cut me a slab from the bottom tree trunk. They saved me this section which was just below where the tree split into 2 sections.
I'm hoping to create a tabletop with it and use it on our back patio when we build that. I've been Googling about how to preserve it. It may be more time and money (and expertise) than we want to spend but I hope I can make it work. It would be a nice memento of our lovely tree. It measures 40" wide by 25" deep. I love how you can see the two different circles for each trunk. Hubby says it looks like boobies. <roll eyes> LOL I want to cut the slab a little thinner, seal/preserve it, and figure out some kind of base for it. I think it would be cool. :)
Thanks for following along and giving me support today. :)
I'm sad for you all and the tree. The other tree looks lonely now.

It's 5:46 am and I already belted out a good laugh. Hubby is right about the boobies!!
Sorry about the tree but I really like what you are going to do with the slab from the tree. It's a wonderfully creative idea and I know you can make it work!

So very sad...but I love your idea on trying to preserve some of it. I'm sure you'll do something amazingly creative with it.
